Western Team Takes OU by Storm
The Miami western team braved the cold and snow to travel to Ohio University last weekend, proving that the weather can’t keep the Redhawks down. In tow were two of MUET’s favorite steeds, Brandi and Gambler. Both showed fortitude throughout the day and represented MU well. The team had a strong showing through both the morning and afternoon shows, with depth in all divisions. They captured Reserve High Point Team in the morning, garnering an impressive 30 points. Senior, Leah Moore, was High Point Rider.
The momentum carried them throughout the afternoon show where they took home High Point Team honors, and Leah was Reserve High Point Rider. The Redhawks swept the Open Horsemanship division, getting first, second, and third. The Novice Horsemanship riders took no prisoners, coming in first and second in both classes.
Julie Havrilla and Megan Perry received nothing but blue all day, coming in first in both shows. Other first place finishers included Steven Lakin, Leah Moore, Dana Rossman, Jaime List, and Shannon LaGassa.
Several MUET riders also qualified for regionals. Congratulations to Kayla Kuhlman, Steven Lakin, Dana Rossman, Jaime List, and Megan Perry.
Adding to the success of the weekend, Leah Moore was also crowned Ohio Quarter Horse Association Queen. Congratulations on this impressive achievement. Stay tuned for more details as Leah prepares to compete for the coveted title of All American Quarter Horse Congress Queen next fall.
