The progress of Miami University Equestrian

Redhawks End the Semester Strong

The snow has arrived, the horses have grown thick winter coats, the holiday season has come and gone.  The students have left Miami, and the town of Oxford has grown sleepy and quite again (at least for now).  This semester is over, so now is a great time to reflect on the successes this year has brought thus far.  Miami’s hunt seat team is leading the region in overall points.  The Dressage team is also on top in the IDA.  Miami’s Western team is second in the region.  The KNH classes saw a semester full of riding and learning.  For many students taking the beginner classes, riding at Miami is a unique opportunity that they would not have gotten at a different university.  We are at full capacity in all of our classes for next semester.

We have seen some strong riding and excellent sportsmanship throughout the semester.  MU hunt seat rider, Michaella Gerlacher competed in OHJA medal finals.  She placed fourth in her class and won the hunter classic.

Miami’s hunt seat and western teams were both invited to participate in an NCAA scrimmage at the University of Tennessee Martin this past November.  Abby Postle earned the point in her over fences class.  Brianna DeCamp excelled in both her reining and horsemanship classes, earning the point in both.  The UTM skyhawks are planning to make a trip to Oxford in the future to scrimmage the Miami teams on their own turf.

The Redhawks are looking forward to continuing their highly successful season next semester.
