Midwest Indoors II
On November 20th, Miami traveled to Roberts Arena in Wilmington, OH with nine horses and ten riders for our first open show of the semester. Both horses and riders much enjoyed their escape from the winter weather in the heated barns and arenas. Head coach Heather Pinnick spent the weekend traveling back and forth between the hunter and jumper rings as we had five hunters and four jumpers this time around.
In the jumper ring, Miami horses Thor, Maddie, and our newest addition Carco showed off their skills. We were lucky to have sophomore Kathryn Hoots join the team with her own horse Picasso for their first Hunter – Jumper show outside of the eventing world as well. Freshman Julia Mason joined Kathryn in the Low Child/Adult Jumpers aboard “Some Like it Hot” aka Maddie. The little red rocket proved that she loves showing in the jumper arena as she whipped around the courses. Kathryn and Picasso went double clear in the Mini Prix on Saturday, with a fourth place finish. Congratulations to Julia and Kathryn on a great first open show with Miami!
Intern Jackie Yeager tried out Miami’s newest addition, S.F. Carco in the High Adult Jumpers alongside Kayla Akers and Thorwald. Both Carco and Thor had their game faces on throughout the weekend in addition to their stylish bonnets. The big boys knew exactly what to do as soon as the buzzer went off, both bringing home respectable ribbons in their division.
In the Hunter ring, Miami horses Toby, Caper, Butterfly, Pleiades and Twix represented the school. Freshman Samantha Long showed “Woodford Reserve” aka Toby in the Children’s Hunters and the Performance Hunters over the weekend. The new pair had some great rounds with ribbons over fences as well as on the flat. Junior Abby Postle once again showed “Constellation” aka Caper in the Adult Hunter’s. The two had previously shown together over the summer and this time around was no different. Abby and Caper had many great rounds over fences with ribbons in all of their classes.
Next up, Ashley Dowler and the queen, Butterfly, showed together in the Intermediate Adult Hunters alongside Rachel Flake and Pleiades. Butterfly strutted her stuff to a great fifth place ribbon on the flat along with many ribbons over fences as well. A slightly newer pair, Rachel and Pleiades, had their game faces on as well. Over the weekend, they had great rounds over fences and on the flat. Rachel and Pleiades won the Intermediate Adult Equitation on the flat. This photogenic mare certainly likes horse showing!
Both Senior Helena Kervinen and Freshman Samantha Maze shared “Show Boy” aka Twix in the Limit Hunter division. Helena showed Twix in the hunter classes and Samantha in the equitation classes. For both rider’s, it was their first time going to an open show with Miami. Each had great rounds aboard a wonderful horse with once again, more respectable ribbons.
Congratulations to everyone on a wonderful weekend!
